Think I'm giving up on 4K physical media. Too much hassle. First two discs I bought to play on an earlier 4K TV looked extra dark/murky. Bought a newer TV which fixed the issue. The 4K of "Wicked" I got today started freezing/sputtering during the "A Sentimental Man" number by Jeff Goldblum and didn't recover. Had to finish watching on the standard ( Read more... )

Even though I just rewatched it again a few days ago, I'm watching "Nosferatu" again. When I rewatched the old Image Entertainment DVD I bought in the '00's, I thought to myself, might be time to "upgrade", so I ordered the remastered Kino Lorber Blu-ray, which arrived today.

It's strange. I subscribe to a few streaming services, scrolled through their offerings this evening, ended up watching a few episodes of the TV series "Maude" and "Friday the 13th, Part 2", both from my DVD collection instead. A few days ago I watched the 2022 film "Babylon" for the first time on Paramount+. Liked it so much, I ordered a physical copy to add to my collection (since things don't stay on streaming forever). Back in the 1990's, I bought several "Ed Wood" films on VHS, which were released by Rhino Home Video, which included "Glen or Glenda", "Jail Bait", "Bride of the Monster", "Plan 9 From Outer Space", "Night Of The Ghouls", and "Orgy Of The Dead". With the Kino short films collection, the five Cohen/Kino feature film  discs, and the Criterion disc with "The Cameraman" and "Spite Marriage",  judging from online research, I might have Buster Keaton's entire surviving silent era output on Blu-ray.  Someone like Stan Taffel can probably correct me if something is amiss.

I said to myself recently I was going to cut down on "upgrading" discs in my collection I already own. However, noticed Amazon had a Cyber Monday sale on the Marx Brothers Paramount films collection on Blu-ray for $14.99, so I just ordered it. Paid around $60 for it on DVD back in the day.
